The Catholic Church in Fiji has come out strongly condemning the spate of Domestic Violence deaths in the Country
Head of the Catholic Church in Fiji-Archbishop Peter Loy Chong says the Literate on the Domestic Violence is that we are a Patriarchal Culture where men are seen to be holding the Authority.
He says Domestic Violence trend happens more in Patriarchal Culture and there needs to be an Education on Culture, our culture needs to be changed if its not promoting good christian values.
Chong believes more awareness around the communities needs to be done and one of the issue the Church has been addressing is on Domestic Violence.
As a community he has also emphasized the Need that all of us cannot be By-standers anymore.
The Catholic Church has a Ministry called “Women at the Well” that provides a safe space for women who have faced Domestic Violence.
