Digicel Fiji will not pass the ten cents levy for every gigabyte of data used by their customers.
This was confirmed by Digicel Fiji CEO Mike Greig in a press conference this morning.
Greig says that Digicel acknowledges the Telecommunications Amendment Bill which was passed in Parliament last week , however it will not pass the 10 cents data levy per gigabyte cost to its customers.
This means that Digicel Fiji will bear the cost.
Greig says Digicel understands the need to develop ICT services in the country at reasonable prices so as to not impact growth and development of industry and individuals.
He added that people are moving away from the traditional phones calls and customers are mainly using the internet for communication.
Thus, the voice levy has been removed and replaced by the data levy.
Revenue for the Telecommunication Development Trust Fund has significantly dropped, therefore funds collected from the data levy will be invested in the telecommunication sector.
