The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) 1/20 Junior Staff Officers (JSO) Course was officially opened by the Director Human Resource Management (DHRM) Colonel (Col) Litea Seruiratu at the Officers Training School in Vatuwaqa.
The fifteen participants included officers from not only the RFMF but from His Majesty’s Armed Forces in Tonga, the Fiji Corrections Services and the Fiji Police Force.
In her opening address, Col Seruiratu congratulated the officers for being selected into the course and stated that the course played a vital aspect in their role as officers.
“Congratulations on being selected to undertake the initial JSO Course at RFMF Officers Training School. This course will teach you values and skills that will benefit you both your career and personal life, long after your progress form OTS,” Col Seruiratu said.
“It will present to you many challenges that will test your determination and ability to become a good staff officer.
We want you to know the aim at OTS is to support and advance Junior Staff Officers who will become valuable members of the respective organizations you work for.” Col Seruiratu added.
When comparing the old and new methods of carrying out staff work, Colonel Seruiratu mentioned that the introduction of advancing technology nowadays has caused many to lose focus on the importance of noble staff work. However, she urged the participants to rather use technology as a tool to develop.
“The point here is not so much the imbalance between effective execution and advancing technology, but in the loss of focus on the importance of credible staff processes and good staff work. Use technology to streamline delivery and development processes; do not permit its sense of immediacy to overrule common sense deliberation in the creation of staff work.”
Lastly, Col Seruiratu concluded by wishing all the participants success on the 6 weeks of training at OTS
