The New Zealand Defence Adviser to Fiji, Commander Sarah Bamfield, was warmly welcomed onto the base of the Fijian Navy today before meeting with Captain (Navy) Humphrey Tawake, Chief of Fijian Navy.
Sarah was accorded with a Sub Lieutenant Guard of Honour at the Fijian Navy base.
Commander Bamfield used the opportunity to gift a marine radiotelephone to the Fijian Navy on behalf of the New Zealand Defence Force. The radio is a key capability needed to support search and rescue operations and maritime surveillance activities in the region.
Today’s event was one of the first official engagements for Commander Bamfield who arrived in Suva only a few days ago to assume the role of New Zealand Defence Adviser from LT COL Josh Wineera.
Commander Bamfield is joined by her husband in Fiji, and is expected to serve for a period of three years as the Defence Adviser to Fiji, Kiribati and Tuvalu.Thanks
