Customer service will be a key area of focus for Government this financial year.

This was stressed by the Minister for Defense, National Security and Policing, Honorable Inia Seruiratu to the Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu and members of the senior Command during his visit to Police Headquarters this morning.

Hon. Seruiratu said the Fiji Police Force like any other Government institution needed to realize the importance of customer service and it’s not just about the customer always being right, but about treating customers like you’d treat your family in a professional and respectable manner.

Members of the Fiji Police Command Group were reminded by the Honorable Minister that for anyone who is serious about making considerable headway in any work, needed to understand why customer service is so important.

“It’s not just for all the obvious reasons, it goes far beyond that. It delves into the very existence of who we are and why we do the things that we do”.

He added the importance of creating a positive first impression could lead towards building a positive and lasting relationship with customers whether the interaction is over the phone or in-person, the initial impression can set the tone for the entire customer experience.

“You must treat people with respect. Sometimes it’s a challenge and it’s hard to humble ourselves because of the uniform that we wear but there is no harm in addressing our people as Sir’s and Madam or Mr and Ms.

”He advised the Command Group that customer service delivery needed to be inculcated in all aspects of servide delivery especially with young officers.

“The way we treat our customers is indicative of the way we look at things in life and more importantly provides a better working environment in as far as security is concerned”.
