The overall crime rate in the county has decreased since COVID-19 restrictions were imposed on March 19th.

Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho says the high number of arrests is for breach of COVID-19 restrictions.

The Fiji Police Force last month recorded a 36% increase in crime rate largely due to the high number of arrests made for COVID-19 restriction breaches.

The force will continue the fight against illicit drugs and is using technology to beef up operations.

Qiliho says the force is collecting the information needed to assist with the raids.

The Fiji Police Force will continue drug raids in other parts of the country with the aim of eradicating the country’s rising drug problem.
