The Administrator of China’s National Forestry and Grassland Administration-Zhang Jianlong this week commended Fiji’s tree-planting initiative.
His leading a nine-member delegation to Fiji to explore avenues to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the forestry sector.
He said Fiji’s initiative to plant four million trees in four years might be ambitious considering the population size, but is highly achievable.
Permanent Secretary for Forestry -Pene Baleinabuli thanked the Chinese Government for its support to Fiji through a MOU signed in 2015 through the Asia Pacific Network on Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation.
APFNet funds several projects including the development of Fiji’s code of practice for tree harvesting and capacity-building programs.
Over a dozen Fijian foresters have undertaken training programs in China.
