The Fiji Bus Operators Association has not been formally informed of the changes to bus fares.
With a fare structure that has remained frozen for more than a decade, the Fiji Bus Operators Association requested a review of fares to avert a full-scale collapse of the bus industry.
Due to operational difficulties, two bus operators have had to cease operations because they could not shift to a sustainable position.
Leading up to today’s announcement, the Fiji Bus Operators had asked the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission that if inflation in the last 10 years had been taken into account fares would have increased by between 28 percent to 30 percent.
The Fiji Bus Operators will isue a statement once officially advised.
