The Broncos will claim the NRL’s wooden spoon for the first time in the club’s history after being beaten 32-16 by the Cowboys in Brisbane.
The six-time champions season of woe is now over, with the defeat extending Brisbane’s club record losing streak to 11 games.
In a further blow to the Broncos, stand-in five-eighth and potential NSW representative Kotoni Staggs suffering a suspected serious knee injury.
The loss also ended former Kangaroo Darius Boyd’s 15 year NRL career.
“This game doesn’t change things for me,” the 33-year-old Boyd said.”

“It has been a challenging season for a number of reasons but… it’s been a great ride.”
