Winning the 2020 Punjas Battle of the Giants tournament is not our priority say Rewa coach Marika Rodu.

“Winning the Punjas BOG will be a bonus for the team as our focus this year is on winning the Vodafone Premier League,” said Rodu

Rodu said his players have been giving a good show in every game that they have been playing this season.

“Like I said from the beginning, our aim is to win the Vodafone Premier League this season. The BOG and other tournaments will act as good testing grounds for the team and the players.”

“Since COVID-19 has badly impacted everybody, winning the tournament should give the players some extra pocket money and help them financially. But it all depends on them. If they are determined and hungry to win then they will surely give their best and win the tournament.”

Rodu said they were not expecting a really tough battle against Navua who were also in contention for a semifinal spot.

“We knew they played a tough match against Lautoka on Saturday in the sun and they had a lot of tired bodies. We fielded a fresh team and things worked in our favour as we did things right.”

“We scored some easy goals but come the semifinals, things should get tough and after some rest and recovery. We will use the remaining four days to prepare well,” he added.

The Delta Tigers defeated host Lautoka 3-1 in their opening match and went down 0-1 against Nadi. They won 3-0 against Navua to book a spot in the semi-finals with four points.

The Delta One Auto Repairs sponsored- Rewa will face Priceline Pharmacy sponsored- Ba in the first semifinal at 2pm on Saturday.
