Fijians in Seaqaqa have been assured that Government is committed to providing everyone with electricity and water. Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Hon. Inia Seruiratu highlighted this while addressing Fijians gathered at a talanoa session in Solove, Macuata two weeks ago.
Minister Seruiratu said Government, through Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) was now rolling out the greater electrification need for the whole of the Seaqaqa area.
“For electricity, Government has already committed to providing everyone with electricity and water. But it doesn’t mean that it will all be done at once because it will be done according to the allocation of funds provided by Government,” Hon. Seruiratu said.
He said because of the contribution of Seaqaqa to the economy in Vanua Levu and Fiji as a whole, Government was already aware of the issues that they faced. “We are going along the main road now and after that we will go through the circular road. But definitely it is coming in stages.
Be assured, a few years back we gave you solar, now we are bringing the electricity grid. Everybody will be given electricity but it will be given when resources are available.”
For water, Hon. Seruiratu said, the Ministry had identified eight boreholes belonging to the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources as Government reserves in the greater Seaqaqa area.
“The Minister has spoken to his officials to investigate the boreholes to see if in the meantime, people can be provided with water using water from the eight boreholes.” Minister Seruiratu was in the North last month to accompany the Hon. Prime Minister on a tour of the Division.
