Highlighting two very important issues of Bullying and Colorism on her Book titled Kaluti
Human Rights and Feminist Activists and Writer -Shazia Usman is proud of her First-Ever Book Publication.
Usman says the Response from the public has been very overwhelming since the Launch of her Children’s Book last Thursday.
With her Passion of Reading and Telling Stories it was fitting enough for her to write a Book on an issue she herself identified with while growing up.
Usman says she was somebody who had faced Colorism while growing up and when she was a little girl she always wanted to read a book that represented her and many others out there.
Kaluti follows the Journey of a 10 -year -old girl called Zia as she is being called this term which is a disrespectful term used by Fiji-Indians to describe Dark-Skinned People.
The story line is focused on her understanding the term and later encouraged by her supportive Parents that she is Beautiful just the way she is. All the Characters are from Fiji.
She hopes the book relays the Message that you can be Comfortable in your own Skin and that you are more than Enough. It took her about a year to get all the Publication Process done and despite the challenge of being a self-Published Author.
She hopes her book will reach the Hands of every single Fijian Children in the Country and be integrated into the School Curriculum as well. The Book is now available at the USP Book Center, Dominion Book shop and the Mad Hatter Hut Cafe in Suva.
