“World Day against Child Labour” was commorated today where the Minister of Employment, Youth and Sports officiated.
The World Day against Child Labour is focused on the impact of the novel Coronavirus pandemic on child labour with the theme: ‘COVID-19: Protect Children from child labour, now more than ever!’
It is important that we as a nation to take stock of our responsibilities on this important day.
Minister for Employment,Parveen Bala says due to this COVID-19 pandemic, we must work hand in hand to protect workers and promote businesses at the same time.
According to the Labour Standard Services, there has been a total of 247 child labour cases from 2011 till 1st June 2020.
Bala added that the government is committed in the development a Roadmap for Fiji to accelerate efforts and try new approaches.
The Ministry of Employment will continue to work the social partners including ILO to protect children from Child Labour now more than ever.
