The Ministry of Fisheries is seeking the support of the nation in protecting the ‘Kawakawa’ and ‘Donu’ fish species – ahead of the seasonal ban from June to September.
The ban is in place so that these species are able to ‘re-stock’ their numbers, during their spawning period.
Enforcement officers will continue awareness this week – in all municipal markets, restaurants, hotels, and fish shops.
Those caught harvesting, selling or buying the banned species from June – will face hefty penalties.
