All visitors to Australia will have to self-isolate for 14 days from midnight, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced in a move that effectively stops international tourism.

Following a phone hook-up of the prime minister, premiers and chief ministers, Morrison said the move to self-isolation was aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus through the community.

Morrison also confirmed that from Monday, non-essential events attracting more than 500 people would be banned.
