Leading former Weightlifter Apolonia Vaivai, will return to Weightlifting Fiji competitions, after her earlier public boycott of Weightlifting Fiji in 2018.
Apolonia’s return has been made possible by her withdrawal from the boycott, under the process for boycotting athletes wanting to return to WF
Apolonia has been the most consistent and highest profile athlete of the boycotting athletes to relinquish her ties with the boycotting athletes from Levuka and returning to Weightlifting Fiji.
Apolonia won 3 Gold Medals in 3 consecutive Commonwealth Championships from 2016-2018, the only Fiji athlete to ever do so.
She won Bronze medals at the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Apolonia qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on merit.
She represented Fiji at the 2017 World Championships and has several Pacific Games and Oceania Championships Gold Medals to her name.
In her formal submission to Weightlifting Fiji, Apolonia stated that “for the past 3 years, she has been misled by her coach and some officials about the issues between Weightlifting Fiji and the Levuka group.
She adds that she regrets her decision to leave her career behind.
Apolonia has accepted that she needs to comply with the
Rules and Regulations and perform to the required professional standards and code of conduct as she makes her return.
