The remaining four escapees who were still at large by yesterday afternoon were all captured during the early hours of this morning.
Bainivalu Tuimatavesi, Solomoni Qurai, Peniasi Qalibau and Josua Usamaki were all recaptured within the 24 hour period after their escape from the Maximum Security Complex.
The Chief Operations Officer of the Fiji Police ACP Maretino Qiolevu says that the quick response of the Fiji police force along with the Fiji Correctional service officers led to the quick recapture.
Qiolevu wishes to thank all members of the public for their patience and understanding, Roadblocks and regular checks on our roads created a lot of traffic congestion and many travellers were delayed in their movement on christmas eve but all this was not in vain as the seven escapees were recaptured within the 24 hour period.
Qiolevu thanked the Fiji Corrections officers, the army personnels and police officers who were part of the joint operations,for going that extra mile to ensure the people we serve enjoy their christmas and new years in a safe and secure environment.
He also cautioned the public to be more careful, and to keep safe.
Police presence around the city area and in towns areas around the country can be expected.
