American actor Tom Hanks says he and his wife Rita Wilson have contracted the coronavirus while in Australia.
Hanks, who is working on his latest film on Australia’s Gold Coast, tweeted that they both felt tired, aching and had slight fevers.
He said they were then tested and found to be positive for the respiratory illness.
The 63-year-old actor said they will now be isolated for as long as public health and safety requires.
The New York Times reported that Hanks was in Australia to film a movie about the life of Elvis Presley, in which he plays Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker. It was not immediately clear if filming would be postponed.
Hanks won Academy Awards for his mid-1990s performances in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump.
