The Office of the Commissioner Northern Division hosted five Heads of Missions and senior diplomats during a visit to the Division on Wednesday.
The delegation were on a two-day tour of the North this week.
On their arrival, Australian High Commissioner to Fiji His Excellency John Feakes, New Zealand High Commissioner to Fiji to Fiji His Excellency Jonathan Curr, United States Ambassador to Fiji His Excellency Joseph Cella, Deputy Chief of Mission Japan Mr. Tsuguyoshi Hada, British Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Paul Welsh were received by the acting Commissioner Northern Division Mr. Uraia Rainima and his team before meeting with Tui Macuata Ratu Wiliame Katonivere and heads of departments of various Government Ministries and organisations.
During a briefing with the delegation, Mr Rainima provided information about his role in the Division, focusing on the Integrated Rural Development Framework (IRDF) and his role as the divisional disaster controller.
Mr Rainima also highlighted functions of the Ministry and provided statistics of critical needs for water supply, rural roads and other infrastructure.
He also provided a detailed briefing on the challenges faced by the Division during their operations for Tropical Cyclone Harold and COVID-19.
“Discussions also focused on rural to urban drift, abundance of natural resources, arable land that is underutilised, economic ventures by companies and others,” Mr Rainima said.
The delegation also visited non-governmental organisations (NGOs), Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre and the Soqosoqo Vakamarama.
They also visited the Agriculture Research Station in Wainigata, Savusavu, and met with members of the business communities and tourism stakeholders in Labasa and Savusavu.
Mr Rainima also held discussions with the visiting diplomats on provisions of resources for disaster management and disaster risk reduction.
