Having Access to a sign Language Interpreter is still a Challenge for many speech impaired Children in Fiji and the Region.
This was the sentiments shared by Disability Advocate-Krishneer Sen.
Sen was amongst 40 participants that were part of the Sixth Young Pacific Leaders Conference held in Suva this week.
“Main area of challenge for us is language, a lot of young children who are deaf have no idea of sign language and they don’t learn it from home so sign language is not given to them so they don’t have much opportunity and it leads to more barriers”
Sen hopes that other speech impaired people like him get as many opportunities to make a difference in their communities. The program is a great opportunity for youths to discuss issues facing their region.
The 4-Day Program is funded by the US Department of State in Partnership with Cultural Vistas came to an end yesterday.
