Despite the subdued mood the country is in because of COVID-19, families celebrated Mother’s Day today.
Mother’s Day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society.
Financial constraints with job losses, and a struggling economy did not discourage Fijians from celebrating mothers day today.
Although it was a quiet celebration for many, this day provides good reason for families to smile amidst the gloom and doom.
“It is a quiet mother’s day for me because I am used to celebrating today with my extended family. This was not possible today with the social gathering restrictions,” Ma Vunibobo said.
Mothers day is celebrated with gratitude as individuals from different walks of like acknowledged the hands that raised and nurtured them.
For many though, today is a day to remember and re-live the moments once enjoyed and cherished by their late mothers.
