A total of 682 stray dogs were captured during the recently concluded 8-week stray dog control campaign
This was confirmed by Agriculture Minister-Dr. Mahendra Reddy, he has acknowledged the support of stakeholders and public in the successful implementation.
432 dogs were neutered, 91 dogs were re-homed with 373 dogs being released back into areas which they were initially trapped, 218 animals being humanely euthanized during the Campaign.
Reddy thanks the support of various groups like Animals Fiji and SPCA amongst others. A total of 515 dog licenses were sold during the Campaign.
He adds through the TNR program a key component of any national stray dog control program, the stray dog population will gradually decrease over time.
The Ministry will continue to enforce dog legislation of the Spay and Neuter Program during this financial year.
