Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has successfully completed road rehabilitation work on six sections in the Central Division.
“We have completed sections on Princes Road, Ratu Sukuna, Fletcher Road, Nabua Commercial area, Karsanji Street and Nabua Bypass Road with road improvement works, including road surface improvements, improved drainage, badly damaged sections of the kerb and channel and line marking, says Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Moore.
“To reduce traffic congestion impacts the majority of these works were carried out at night. Previously the repetitive pothole repairs have been used as an interim measure too many times and for too long. Being a temporary repair there is a limit to the number of times it can be done in the same location. Once that limit has been reached the road requires major rehabilitation to bring it back to a serviceable condition.”
He said these works will improve the driving conditions and reduce travel time that will greatly enhance the viability as these roads are among the most frequently travelled routes in the Central Division.
“The FRA is taking steps to deliver rehabilitated sections of road throughout the country which will help provide a durable, long-life solution; minimizing future repair. Motorists are advised to please abide by the speed limit at all times.”
Mr Moore said that the rehabilitation of the next group of severely deteriorated roads will commence from this month in Suva, Nadi and Labasa.
