Close to 300 villagers of Naisogovau in Tailevu will now enjoy the newly commissioned foot-crossing after it was commissioned today.
The total cost of the project was over three thousand dollars, which was inclusive of construction material and labour costs.
Officiating at the commissioning, Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development, Waterways and Environment Dr Mahendra Reddy said the new foot-crossing will benefit the villagers and the neighbouring communities.
“Children will be able to access safe and proper crossings when going to school and villagers will have proper access to their own farms which will in turn improve livelihoods.”
“Gone are the days where villagers used coconut trunks to cross from the other side of the village to the main road.”
He reassured the villagers that Government will continue to provide assistance to all Fijians especially those that are living in rural and maritime areas with similar projects.
Villagers were also given an opportunity to raise issues during a talanoa session where Dr Reddy responded to queries pertaining to his line ministries.
