The flat iron is required to spread the Masi (tapa) after it is beaten to a pulp. This is the only source of livelihood on the island and the water from the pump is to keep the Masi wet so it’s easy to beat it to a pulp.
The total cost of assistance amounts to $15,300 and was funded by the Office of the Prime Minister.
The 40hp outboard engine for Bouwaqa Village was funded by the Ministry of Rural Maritime.
This assistance was part of the government’s promise during the recent visit to Vatulele after TC Harold.
