Fiji yesterday joined hundreds of countries from around the world in commemorating the official 2019 World Tourism Day.
The day is focused on creating awareness among the global community of tourism’s cultural, political and socioeconomic value and the contribution the sector can make in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals.
With this years Theme: ‘Tourism and Jobs: a better future for All. The Theme blends well with Fiji’s commitment to the sustainable development of the Fijian tourism industry, as well as the Fijian economy at large.
This week, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism participated at the USP -School of Tourism and Hospitality Management Annual Careers Fair held at the Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa.
While officiating at the event-Permanent Secretary for Industry and Tourism-Shaheen Ali says Tourism and Hospitality students have given the multi-disciplinary nature of the industry, one that is ever growing.
Ali added the Fijian Government’s approach to tourism is sustainable partnership, where each stakeholder in the industry takes a shared responsibility towards achieving the national vision for the tourism sector.
In attendance were Hospitality students and Senior Lectures and staff of the Outrigger.
