U.S. Embassy Suva in partnership with the East-West Center (EWC) is now accepting applications for the 2019 Changing Faces Seminar from women entrepreneurs until April 4, 2019 to expand their knowledge of entrepreneurship, economic growth, leadership and community building through carefully selected field visits and meetings with experts, practitioners, business owners and policymakers from July 7 – 20 at EWC, Hawaii.

All applicants must complete this application form together with a letter of interest, resume and two professional letters of recommendation describing the applicants’ suitability for the Seminar by Thursday, April 4 via: E-mail: changingfaces@eastwestcenter.org OR Fax: 808-944-7600. Indicate “Changing Faces Application” in the subject heading of your application. For inquiries about the application process, call Sara Lam at: 808-944-7727.

The 12-day professional training, dialogue and travel seminar will focus on the important role that innovation and entrepreneurship play in contributing to economic growth, job creation and strengthening communities. The Changing Faces Seminar will provide training and consultative sessions to help participants develop and actualize a concrete action plan for the betterment of their business or their community.

To address the challenges confronting working women entrepreneurs, including poor access to leadership and entrepreneurial training; insufficient contacts and social capital necessary to access information and advice; a paucity of role models; and a lack of positive attitudes about their own personal capacities, the East-West Center established the Changing Faces Women’s Leadership Seminar in 2002. The Changing Faces Seminar contributes to economic growth and job creation of the Asia Pacific region and is recognized as a capacity-building model for women entrepreneurs.

To date, 185 women from 34 countries have participated and many have become tremendously successful. Changing Faces, for example, was instrumental in connecting a 2016 participant to various public relations opportunities in New Zealand that enabled her to scale her solid, beauty product micro-business to a multimillion dollar enterprise with products sold worldwide on Amazon.
