An 18year old student is in Police custody after allegedly robbing a 24year old foreign student in Lautoka on Wednesday.

The victim was walking along Field 40 Road when he was allegedly approached by the suspect who asked for money.

The victim told the accused that he did not have any money but the suspect allegedly forcefully grabbed two phones from the victim and assaulted him before fleeing the scene of crime.

Three officers from the Nadi Police Taskforce team who were in the area conducting enquiries for a separate case, came across the victim lying on the side of the road and pursued the suspect by foot.

The officers managed to catch up with the suspect who allegedly threatened to kill the officers and threw stones at them.

One of the officers managed to tackle and arrest the suspect and took him into custody.

Officers also managed to recover the stolen items.

Investigations continue.
