The Global Movement on the ’16 days of Activism against Gender Based Violence will this year have the Theme: “Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands against Rape”
The Fiji Women’s Crisis Center Coordinator -Shamima Ali says they will be intensifying their campaign with public marches across the country, and also taking it to Taveuni for the very first time.
Ali says its a time they give a lot of visibility to the issues, as 8 women alone died this year from gender based violence and she hopes to get the community involved as well.
The Campaign is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.
Ali was one of the founding members back in 1990 when the movement began at the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute and continues to be coordinated each year by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership.
It is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
