Today, Government welcomed the latest and most advanced measure yet in its comprehensive COVID-19 action plan.
This follows the commissioning of the Molecular Laboratory and the Fiji Center for Diseases Control in Tamavua this morning by the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.
“Essentially, this new lab means we can test for the virus directly in Fiji, rather than spend time and money shipping samples for testing overseas, as we’ve been doing up until today.”
Prime Minister Bainimarama added that with the fast-moving spread of COVID-19, Fiji is not going to wait for an announcement.
“We’re acting with urgency to protect our people and to ensure that we are fully capable of aggressively identifying, isolating and treating any case of COVID-19 in Fiji.”
Fiji is one of four countries in the Pacific that will now be able to test for COVID-19.
