Climate Change Champions Awarded for Commitment
Two youth climate champions received special recognition from the Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama for their efforts in advocating for and creating awareness on the impacts of Climate Change both locally and on the international stage.
The two Fijian primary school students, Timoci Sausauwai and Shalvi Sakshi, who took to the global climate stage after being announced winners of the Primary Schools National Oratory competition as part of the National Climate Week in June 2017.
Ever since the winning announcement, Timoci Sausauwai and Shalvi Sakshi have been visible Ambassadors of climate action and engagements.
The National Oratory competition was jointly organised by the COP23 Presidency Secretariat, the Ministry of Education and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
With UNICEF’s support both Sausauwai and Sakshi were able to attend the COP23 meeting chaired by Fiji in Bonn, Germany in November 2017.
The Prime Minister in handing over $1,000 cheque each, commended the duo for a job well done and wished them the very best in their future and in particular best wishes for the new school year.
