Bainimarama: COP Presidency May Be Over But This Is Just The Beginning
Although Fiji’s COP presidency ended last year, its work isn’t over.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said this is just the beginning.
While speaking at the United Nations Headquarters in new York, Bainimarama says countries around the world are not doing enough to prevent climate catastrophe despite the Paris Agreement that came into place almost three years ago.
“We are asleep at the wheel and headed for disaster,” said Bainimarama.
He says the Talanoa Spirit has taught everyone to more their collective agenda in an atmosphere that is not of blame or finger pointing but with respect and understanding
“In Fiji, we have prepared a detailed report that reveals some of the most important interesting and surprising things we learned from the dialogue. We hope this can be a source of inspiration and guidance as we prepare for the next steps,” he said.
The report was released yesterday and can be accessed on the COP23 website.
