11 Fall Victims of Sexual Assault Offences in Jan

10 people were charged with 15 counts of sexual assault on the first month of the year.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions released the latest statistics on the number of sexual assault offences that occurred in January 2019.

A year, that some never expected to be victims of a degrading offence.

Amongst the sexual offenders is a 42 year-old police officer and 3 juveniles.

10 of the offenses were rape while 3 were attempted rape.

The 42-year-old police officer was charged with the rape and attempted rape of a 17-year-old girl who was residing with his family.

In another occasion, a 16-year-old boy was charged with the attempted rape of a 13-year-old girl while a 17-year-old boy was charged with the rape of his 7-year-old male cousin and another 17- year-old boy was charged with rape and abduction of two 12-year-old girls.

7 of the 11 victims were under the age of 18 years.

In 5 of the incidents , the victims and accused were related to one another.

A 38-year-old man was also charged with the rape of his 5-year-old daughter while in another incident a 56-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 44-year-old niece.

There was one incident where a 22-year-old man was charged with the attempted rape of his 50-year-old aunt.

Also, a 38-year-old preschool caretaker was charged with the rape of a 4-year-old girl.

A 34-year-old man was also charged with the rape of a 56-year-old woman.

It is believed that the accused allegedly entered the victim’s bedroom through an open window.

Meanwhile, a 59-year-old man who was charged with the rape and indecent assault of a 20-year-old woman is already serving an 11 year sentence for another rape case.
